I have been involved in institutional evaluation of individual units within institutions, such as research groups, departments, schools and so on, both on paper only, and occasionally with an in person visit. Typically, the output is a written report for the university leadership. A different, and more substantial example of my work at institutional level was the request, by a large and highly successful department in one of the leading universities in Italy, to conduct their first mentoring exercise for full professors; I ran this as a series of individual report-writing and one-two hour 1-2-1 in-person conversations, with follow-up when it was considered useful.

I have been involved in the research evaluation exercises in the UK and in Italy, in the latter as a nominated member of the national evaluation panel for economics, management, and accounting (GEV-13).
